Publishing will Die

Publishing as we know it will die. Sad, but true. The happy part is that it will be resurrected. Saved. JA Konrath's genie told him how. I think they're good ideas.

I really disagree with you on this...

I feel there will alway be a publishing industry as we know it... - I assume you feel that the publishing industry will move to online-only - If I am reading this right. I feel that that will not satasify everyone. Just like the music industry will not all be online as digital downloads. Not everyone likes to listen to music on a portable player or on their computer. Some people also like high quality sounding music and not harsh sounding compressed audio. I know that's probably a minority, but it's still a percentage.

Some people said once cable came, the networks would die. That never happened. It's just changed how business works.

I just don't believe the internet will make everything obsolete.

It's simply changing everything.

And personally, I think it makes things interesting. It changes business models and I am all for it.

And I firmly believe the internet is the most important invention since the printing press.

Actually, I don't think print will go away either. But printing is so inefficient right now. I think that's the main point of JA Konrath's article. I think things are going to move more towards 'print on demand' and that sort of thing. So I think we're probably in agreement here.
