This past Christmas, during a group outing to the mall to put Christmas money to good use, C's mom wound up buying "The Story So Far", a 2-CD "Best Of" compilation of Rod Stewart hits. My outward reaction to this purchase was cool, non-committal enthusiasm. Inwardly, however, my reaction was ...

Sometimes, brothers and sisters, my heart is filled with so much love that I want to just throw my arms around all of you and give you sloppy wet kisses on the mouth and get all naked and dance in the mud like it's 1969. And other times I want to burn every bridge I've ever built and cut the head off of this blog and tell you all to fuck off. But today, I've just come here to declare this: I'm jealous of all the people at my gym with their white, white shoes.

Anyway, let me get to the point: all of this is a very long-winded (and, yes, self-indulgent) way of me saying that if you're in DC or NYC you can (and should) catch The Jones at one of these two shows.

The weird part wasn't that Honey, you know ... spoke. It was that she spoke with an English accent. It wasn't exactly a proper, "Received English" kind of English, but it wasn't quite an East End of London, Cockney type of thing, either. It reminded me of the Beatles. She had a sort of nasal thing going on. Like John.

A little plug for a friend's band, who could open for Coldplay.

This is an album you need to listen to naked and sweating in an un-air-conditioned room with a slow-spinning fan overhead. Not that I've done that. Twice.

The memes have been flying all over the place lately. And I got hit in the crossfire. Twice. One in each leg. So here we go, six plus seven, plus one. Random/Weird/Quirky.

C went to California this weekend, and I went to Southpaw Prison in Brooklyn with A & K and a few others to watch Johnny Cash perform.

Casey Dienel has been in pretty heavy rotation on my iPod for close to a year now. Especially the song "Frankie and Annette," which I frequently put on "Repeat One," a setting also known as "OCD? What OCD?"

It was fitting that I was in Montreal the day Oscar Peterson died.

And so I responded as any self-respecting person would: by drinking too much and watching a great movie--twice--before passing out on the floor of our basement. Escapism through film and unconsciousness through alcohol are great American pastimes. And Tuesday I was a Patriot.

Saturday's trip into the city involved going through the Lincoln Tunnel ... twice.

I don't often see movies that I feel like mentioning here. But last night C and I rented Conversations with Other Women, and I had to jot down a few words about it.

We'd been wanting to see Spiderman 3 on the big screen ever since it came out May 4th. But between moving and rental preparations, we just never got around to it. So when we looked last Friday and found that it wasn't playing at any of the major theaters near us, momentary panic ensued. Had we missed it? Were we doomed to watch this special-effects extravaganza on our 32" TV? Please, please, say it ain't so.

A man and a woman are in the lingerie section at Macy's. It seems like they've been shopping for a while. Maybe it's undershirts that bring them to this particular location in the mall. Or bras . . .

It's important to recognize patterns in your life. Because once you've determined a pattern exists, you can try to figure out what it means. Right now, I'm puzzling over this one: with a few exceptions, I've spent my entire life in NFC East cities.

I thought all Superbowl half-time shows would be forever eclipsed by the heavy flop of Janet Jackson's pasty-clad boob. Not so.

After eight years of marriage, though, you begin to figure out certain things about being with one-another. Like how to tolerate granny driving. And how to put together furniture. Over the last several months, C and I have tackled several jobs, and I'm happy to report that furniture assembly is no longer the divisive activity it once was.

That said, we do have very different driving techniques, and the fact that the other doesn't share a particular habit has lead to more than a couple heated arguments over the 'correct' way to drive, and even once resulted in the cancellation of our dinner plans.

In case you were wondering, eating Ranch-style dressing that is one year and four months beyond its expiration date will, in fact, make you physically ill.

If you happen to be standing outside of our apartment door on a Sunday afternoon between now and February 4th, you may be shocked to hear the sound of a female voice shouting furious words at some unlucky SOB. Don't be concerned. The threats are meaningless. And that unlucky SOB is not me. It's the TV set. C and I are just watching a little of the football.

I don't think this would have ever been something I would have considered eating for lunch before I married Catherine. Now it's pretty standard afternoon fare for me.

Again, there was searching. Another noisy search for the right answer. Then came the response: Garage.

Sometimes I wish Catherine drank coffee. It would make me feel more connected to her. I mean, how can I make sense of my spouse, this person with whom I share a home, when she does not wake up and crave coffee first thing in the morning?
